What are the characteristics of carbon fiber composites

browse: 次    Date of issue:2021-08-11

Carbon fiber is mainly composed of carbon elements of a special fiber, its carbon content varies from species to species, generally more than 90%.

Carbon fiber has the characteristics of general carbon materials, such as high temperature, friction, conductivity, thermal conductivity and corrosion resistance, but unlike general carbon materials, its shape has significant anisotropy, soft, can be processed into a variety of fabrics, along the fiber axis direction shows a high strength. Carbon fiber has a small proportion and therefore a high ratio strength.

Carbon fiber is made from artificial chemical fibers with high carbon content and non-melting during heat treatment, which are made by processes such as heat-stabilized oxidation treatment, carbide treatment and graphiteization.

Carbon fiber is a new material with excellent mechanics, its proportion is less than 1/4ofsteel, carbon fiber resin composites are generally more than 3500Mpa tensile strength, is 7 to 9 times the steel, tensile elastic modulus of 23000 to 43000Mpa is also higher than steel.

As a result, the ratio of CFRP to strength of the material and its density can reach more than 2000Mpa/(g/cm3), while the ratio of A3 steel is only about 59Mpa/(g/cm3) and has a higher die than steel.

CFRP applications include:

1, aerospace engineering

The Airbus A350 wide-body aircraft builds 52%CFRP, including wing beams and fuselage components, overtaking the Boeing 787,witha maximum weight ratio of 50%for CFRP.

It was one of the first commercial aircraft to use wing beams made of composite materials. The Airbus A380 is one of the first commercial airliners to have a central wing box made of CFRP;   It is the first wing cross-section with a smooth outline, rather than the wing being divided into sections in the wingspan direction.

2, the car

CFRP is widely used in high-end racing cars. The unmatched strength-to-weight ratio of materials reduces the high cost of carbon fiber, which is essential for high-performance racing. Racing manufacturers have also developed ways to give carbon fiber sheets a certain direction of strength, making them stronger in the load-bearing direction and weaker in a direction where no load is applied or applied. Instead, manufacturers have developed omnographic carbon fiber fabrics that apply strength in all directions.

3, civil engineering

Carbon fiber composite materials have become an important material in structural engineering applications. Its potential architectural benefits have been studied academically and proven to be cost-effective in many field applications for reinforcing concrete, masonry, steel, cast iron and wood structures. Its industrial use can be either refurbishment to reinforce existing structures or as a substitute for rebar (or pre-stress) from the start of the project.

Renovation has become an increasingly used method of this material in civil engineering, and its applications include increasing the carrying capacity of old structures, such as bridges, which are designed to withstand much lower service loads than today, seismic modifications and maintenance of damaged structures. Refurbishment is common in many cases, as the cost of replacing defective structures can be significantly higher than the cost of reinforcing with CFRP.

4, carbon fiber microelectric electrodes

Carbon fiber is used to make carbon fiber microelectric electrodes. In this application, a single carbon fiber with a diameter of 5-7 m is usually sealed in a glass capillary tube. At the tip, the capillary tube is sealed and polished with epoxy resin to make a carbon fiber disc microelectric electrode, or the fiber is cut into lengths of 75-150 m to make a carbon fiber cylinder electrode. Carbon fiber microelectrics can be used for ampere or fast scanning cycle volts to detect biochemical signals.

5, sporting goods

CFRP is now widely used in sports equipment such as squash, tennis and badminton rackets, sports kites, high-quality arrow poles, hockey sticks, fishing rods, surfboards, high-end swimming feet and rowing shells.

Jonny  Amputees such asJonnie Peacockuse carbon fiber blades for running. In some basketball sneakers, it is used as a calf pad to keep the feet stable, usually so that the length of the shoe is above the sole and in certain areas (usually in the arch of the foot) exposed.
